Zanotta: creativity and design from Brianza that are recognised all over the world
Since its foundation in the 1950s, Zanotta has stood out for its ability to innovate and create products that have written the history of Italian design. In almost seventy years of history, Zanotta has collaborated with leading designers, bringing original ideas, creativity and innovation.
A history full of successes, awards and important recognitions
Four Golden Compasses, over 500 products designed and dozens of products exhibited in the world’s most important design museums, from the MoMa in New York to the Centre Pompidou in Paris: this introduction would be enough to understand the importance Zanotta has in the Italian design scene.
Every Zanotta product is a world to explore, the result of the work and intuition of great designers and the passion that has guided the Zanotta family since the 1950s. The company has been able to adapt to the changes that have taken place over the years without ever losing its ability to read the present and anticipate the future. Initially, Zanotta concentrated on the production of sofas and armchairs, but soon expanded its interests to other furnishing items, maintaining its focus on innovation and quality.
The entire production cycle is scrupulously controlled, starting with the design and prototyping phases and ending with final production. Great attention is also paid to the selection of materials and, in particular, to those used in the production of sofas, armchairs and beds. From natural fibres to technical fabrics, each fabric is only approved if it passes the company’s own tests for durability and resistance.
To continue along the path of innovation and experimentation, the company has also created a special division, Zanotta Edizioni, which offers contemporary furniture with a high level of originality.
Incorporating Zanotta products in the furnishings of one’s home means being able to display high quality furnishings that do not fear the passing of years and that maintain their ability to be innovative and functional.
The main style icons signed Zanotta
The Sacco armchair is probably Zanotta’s best known and most recognisable creation. It appeared at the end of the 1960s and was designed by Pietro Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro. Considered a true work of art, it was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro prize in 2020.
It is a destructured and avant-garde armchair, created with the aim of transmitting lightness to furnishing objects. Unlike classic armchairs, the Sacco adapts to everyone’s body shape, offers an ergonomic and enveloping seat and can be easily transported from one place to another in the house.
Another Zanotta creation that has gone down in the history of interior design is the Sciangai clothes stand, designed by Jonathan De Pas, Donato d’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi. Its creation dates back to the early 1970s and is inspired by the board game Shangai. The coat stand is formed by a bundle of wooden sticks, is foldable and, like the Sacco armchair, was awarded the Compasso d’Oro for its innovative design.
Many of Zanotta’s products have a surprisingly simple design: this is the case of the Joy bookcase, designed by Achille Castiglioni. The innovation in this case lies in the self-supporting structure that allows the independent movement of the individual components of the bookcase. It is thus possible to create infinite configurations and transform the shelves of the bookcase into shelves or seats of different heights.
The current Zanotta assortment: furniture and furnishing accessories for every room in the home
In addition to the iconic pieces that make Zanotta one of the most appreciated interior design brands in the world, the brand’s modern collections include furniture and furnishing accessories that can be found in every room in the home.
If consoles, coffee tables, sofas and armchairs are perfect for furnishing the living area, Zanotta beds and designer bedside tables are perfect for guaranteeing a regenerating rest in a context where beauty and original lines are the masters. To close the circle, there are the furnishing accessories: mirrors, coat racks, stools and small tables that can be used to enhance even the most anonymous corners of the rooms.
The Zanotta collection is ideal for those who want to furnish their homes with functional and innovative objects and at the same time want to be able to show off furniture and accessories created by some of the greatest designers of the twentieth century, such as Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass and Bruno Munari.
